Sunday Morning at CUC is an exciting time when the community gathers for worship and fellowship. We have three different services on Sunday morning, 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00. The 8:00 and 11:00 follow a traditional format and 9:30 is contemporary. Each service has liturgy, music, prayer, scripture and sermon.
NOTE: Summer schedule July 4th through September 5th will be as follows:
8:00 a.m. Traditional Worship Service
9:15 a.m. Christian Education Hour
10:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship Service
Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.
Ushers are an important part of our community. They greet you on Sunday morning.
Acolytes bring in the light of Christ to begin the worship service. If you are in the third grade or older and would like to be an acolyte, please call the church office, 303-798-1845.
The word Acolyte is derived from the Greek Akolouthus which means follower, attendant or helper. Acolytes have served the Christian church since ancient times. The first Acolyte may have been Samuel who assisted Eli in the temple during the time of the Israelites. We know Acolytes were serving the church in Rome as early as 250 C.E. (Common Era). Early Acolytes served the church bishops as secretaries, traveling companions, and worship assistants. Their help was needed especially during the celebration of Holy Communion.
In the sixth century, Acolytes were ordained in recognition of the importance of their service to the church. It was later, in the ninth century, that Acolytes came to be associated with candle lighting. Acolytes have always had a special role throughout the history of the Christian worship. Our CUC Acolytes continue this tradition of ministry and service. Their bringing in and taking out the light of Christ symbolizes the spirit of God present with us in worship and leaving with us as we depart to do God’s work in the world. - Marianne Thornton
