As a fundraiser for the church’s new piano in the summer of 2009, I, Mitch Samu – Music Director of CUC, promised short compositions or arrangements done on the new Kawaii to those who were able to donate
toward the purchase of the piano for the sanctuary. We needed about two-thirds of the cost. So the I came up with the idea to “sell” a key for $68/key. We needed to “sell” 60 keys to raise the money we needed. It was not, perhaps, the best thought-out promise I ever made, but I’m working on it.
On this page we will post links to the 60 musical moments I am creating. Some are lovely, some are just plain nutty. The “funest” part of this whole process is naming them after I create them. The instrumental pieces are all done in one take, live, the way I play them down. Mistakes and all.
And NO, I cannot re-create them. Each one of them is a pure original.
And NO I did not “write” everyone of them. I have “borrowed” some melodies for some of them, and I am not sure the original composer would be thrilled with everything I have done to their songs.
