Children, youth and families are vital parts of Columbine United Church. They help us know who we are and who God calls us to be. Guided by God’s love and grace, Columbine’s Children, Youth & Families Ministry provides exceptional opportunities for spiritual growth and transformation. Christian education, music, worship, service, outreach, fellowship, and mission are among our offerings. Come and see the love and care, the fun and fellowship, the service and connections that arise as we discover and cultivate each person’s divine potential!
Our Vision is that all who seek a relationship with God will come to Columbine United Church and find light, love and friends for their spiritual journey. We invite you to come as you are to the CUC community. One that accepts, nurtures, listens and inspires. One that offers many opportunities to explore and celebrate growing healthy relationships with God, self and others that are shaped by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Embracing the spirit of this vision encourages a life bright with purpose, participation, fellowship and giving. It is a life abundant with the adventure of growing together in faith.
SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMS
Acolytes bring the light of Jesus Christ into our worship space each Sunday morning at all three worship services.
Angel Bay Nursery is our safe and caring nursery for infants and toddlers. Our nursery caregivers are trained and certified in First Aid, CPR, AED and universal precautions.
Godly Play is our Sunday School program for children in preschool and kindergarten. It provides an engaging approach to Bible storytelling and prepares children to join in the worship and life of the congregation.
CREW (Christian Crossroads Education Workshop) is our Sunday School program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. It maximizes children’s multiple learning styles and interests by using a rotation workshop model. Stations range from games to cooking to art to puppets and drama and more.
Hand Puppets – The Woodland Creatures - Older elementary and early middle school students participate in this fun and creative way of exploring faith and life. Students meet in the youth room on the lower level throughout the school year at 11:00 AM.
6th & 7th Grades meet Sunday mornings to participate in a unique program that includes handmade projects and discussions centered on the Bible and current issues. They meet in the youth room on the lower level at 9:30 AM each Sunday morning.
8th Grade Confirmation builds friendships and faith while having lots of fun. Using a highly relational approach, students explore their own beliefs and thoughts while discovering how Christian faith has developed over the centuries. They meet at 9:30 AM in the youth ministry offices on the main floor.
High School Education strengthens their faith in discussions centered around how faith and life meet in the events of everyday. Students meet in the youth office at 11:00 AM each Sunday morning.
MORE PROGRAMS
- Music & Mission (M&M) is a highly imaginative ministry where we combine dance, song, and service together. We truly believe children can change the world, and this is one expression of that belief. What happens when you take the TV show Glee and mix it together with children ministering with service agencies? You get M&M – Music & Mission. Expect Flash Mobs, music videos, choreography, and, most importantly, mission and service. M&M is for children and teens ages 6+.
Fun & Fellowship – We want the children and parents of Columbine to connect. One obvious way of forming these connections is by hanging out, laughing, and having a good time. Throughout the year, age-based activities are scheduled.
Main Events – Scattered over the course of the school year are a variety of special events where Columbine comes together for a single worship service, lunch, and activities. In September, we kick-off the school year with Rally Day. In October, we take pumpkins to a whole new level with Pumpkin Palooza. December brings the start of our celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ with Advent Festival. Finally, on Holy Saturday, during the week leading up to Easter is our Eggstravaganza and the Flowering of the Cross.
VBS – Vacation Bible School comes around every June at CUC, and it’s a BIG deal – GIGANTIC! Our Children, Youth & Familes team begins putting a ton of time, energy, and talent into VBS starting in January of each year. Children love CUC’s VBS!
