“Be compassionate as God is compassionate”
No verse in scripture is as clear as this passage from Luke in telling us what Jesus expects of us. Here at Columbine United Church we are responding to this invitation with a rich array of ministries that form a caring infrastructure for our congregation. Nearly 400 people participate in one of the following acts of compassion

FELLOWSHIP
“THE GROUP”
A newly formed adult social group called simply “The Group” is a great opportunity meet other people, enjoy great fellowship, fun activities and outings! So far, we have had a game night and an outing to the Denver Brass. Our next event is a White Elephant Gift Exchange on January 15th. We’ll begin with a dessert potluck at 7:00 in Biel Hall. Bring your wrapped gift to the Fireside Room that
evening and place it under the tree. You may have recently received a gift you wouldn’t have chosen for yourself … a set of tire chains, a mink toilet seat cover, a rubber chicken, maybe even a gruesome tacky lamp. Prepare for an evening of laughs and giggling. Come and join us! Bring a dessert to share. No reservations, just come and join the fun. Be sure to put our Valentine’s Day dinner out together on February 12th and Leprechaun Party on March 19th at CUC on your calendar! If you want further information, please contact Sandy Sexton, Jan Clayton, or Marie Schreiber.
CARE GROUPS
Currently there are ten women’s Care Groups, meeting monthly at different times and places to offer support and fellowship to the women of the church. Anne Prather is the contact person for these groups.
SUNDAY MORNING BREAKFAST
A full breakfast is provided every Sunday from 9am to11am. We have a group of cooks who alternate under the leadership of Linda Mills and Barb Ramseur. It takes at least four volunteers each week to keep this program running. Volunteers and cooks are always needed. Please sign up in Biel Hall. Questions, contact Dot in the church office,
HEALTH MINISTRY AND GRIEF SUPPORT
The Parish Nurse, Rae Bird, and the Health Cabinet work together to provide health education programs to the congregation and staff throughout the year. In the fall they provide a flu shot clinic. Each April CUC is one of the Denver 9 Health Fair sites. One Sunday a month we offer blood pressure screening. The parish nurse makes home, hospital and care center visits as needed, and serves as a health information resource person. Grief support is available as needed. You may contact Rae at 303-979-6188.
VISITATION MINISTRY
We currently have twelve commissioned elders of CUC who are available to visit or make phone calls to those who are ill, hospitalized, or shut-in. They extend the care and compassion of the Church. The contact person is Barb Rudolf.
SENIOR MINISTRIES C.G.’s
(Chronologically Gifted) continues to be a strong social and supportive group for the seniors. The group meets once a month, usually at the church. Often the group has an informal program. They also do activities outside the church. Carol Parson is the staff person.
SMALL GROUPS
Are you aware of the various interesting groups that you can get involved in through CUC? Here are a few you might be interested in: Motorcycles, Prayer Shawl Ministry, CODA, Walking or Hiking, Faithfully Green, Yoga, Iowa Club, Peace and Justice, Friendly Green, Gym Bag Bible, Book Clubs, Al Anon, Partners Bridge, AA. Dates and times are to be found in the bulletin. If you have an idea for a small group let us know and we’ll help you get it started. Join a small group—you’ll be glad you did.
JOYS AND CONCERNS
This ministry provides the prayer concerns in the bulletin each week. It also provides the more detailed copies of the Joys and Concerns at the Information Desk in the narthex each Sunday so that the congregation may take home the names and addresses and send cards and notes.
PRAYER CHAIN
This program lifts up in prayer the requests that are given on a continual basis. There are many dedicated volunteers who make up the prayer chain by email. If you would like to become a part of the prayer chain, or to request a prayer, contact Pat Eaton.
MOM’S- MEMBERSHIP OUTREACH MINISTERS
These individuals make an extra effort to greet newcomers who come on Sunday mornings. They will also be in the information center in the narthex to help answer questions newcomers or members might have. You will know them by their yellow name tags. Ginny Anstine is the contact.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Whether you are new to the church, and want to learn more about us, looking for a group that shares common interests with you, or want to find a way to serve others in the church and community, there is a place for you. Please contact Marie Schreiber or Jan Clayton to explore the opportunities.
