ADULT EDUCATION at CUC for the week of September 5
Sunday Morning Education Hour: Today is the last day of our summer book club! Every Sunday since July 4th, we have met from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the Fireside Chapel to discuss the book, Saving Jesus from the Church: How to Stop Worshiping Christ and Start Following Jesus, by Robin Meyers. The Adult Ed Committee hopes that this provocative book has challenged and expanded your understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. Thank you to all the participants for making this class a success!
A special thank you to all the volunteers who made Adult Education a success this summer, including: the Wednesday morning film series (Suzan Leach, Betsy Rehling, Julie Roghair, Alice Silver), the Sunday morning book discussion (Rev. Steve Poos-Benson, Betsy Rehling, Suzan Leach), Lori Hoffner’s Suicide Prevention training, Surviving Adolescence (Rev. Laurene Lafontaine) and Chris Dawson and Alice Silver who demonstrated ways to increase spirituality through art in photography and pysanky, respectively. Watch for the exciting things we have planned for fall and winter.
Coming Soon:
Tuesday morning Bible Study. Rev. Steve Poos-Benson resumes the study of the New Testament within the context of the church. The class begins on Tuesday, September 14th, at 9:30, a.m. in the Fireside Chapel. We’ll be starting with Acts, so study that chapter to be prepared. Everyone is welcome. Please bring $10.00 to cover the cost of materials.
JustFaith: Faith is not just Belief. This exciting new class begins in September, the week after Rally Day. JustFaith invites us to experience a spiritual journey of compassion.
Interested? Curious? We are registering people for either the Thursday evening class or the Wednesday morning class. You can register today at the Information Booth. The registration fee is $20, which can be waived. You can contact Linda Redwine or Joyce Snapp or Ruthann Moomy with additional questions.
And Who is My Neighbor? A Faith Discussion on Immigration. Beginning on Wednesday evening, October 6th and running for 6 weeks, you will have an opportunity to explore this topic through a curriculum that is scripture and faith based. The class uses a combination of discussion, paperwork, and media presentation to learn about and sort out ideas and issues involved. This class was developed by the Colorado Council of Churches and is funded in part by the Presbytery of Plains and Peaks, the United Methodist Church, the Colorado Immigration Rights Coalition, and the Iliff School of Theology. Please contact Betsy Rehling with questions and also to sign up. There will also be an opportunity to sign up on Rally Day, September 12th.
